Nell Revel-Smith is a contemporary impressionist whose love of the Northern Michigan landscape has inspired her lush floral-filled landscape and still life paintings. Simplicity and spontaneity are two qualities that reflect the mood and motivation behind the work you see. Nell feels art history is the key to understanding painting. She has studied in Europe and has had art history training in her four years at Michigan State University.

Although initially an abstract painter, the self-taught Revel-Smith became more and more influenced with the French Impressionists. Studying the French impressionists, such as Monet, Sisley and Pissaro, have been a continual inspiration for Nell's ongoing love of painting.

Nell has been painting professionally for over thirty years, and enjoys the change of using oil, acrylic and watercolor. Her work hangs in museums, corporations, hospitals, hotels, TV and movie sets and homes worldwide. The reproduction business has enabled Nell the name recognition and international reputation taking her images to more than sixty countries.

Northern Michigan provides the home base for Nell and her husband and manager Powell. Their home and studio is featured in Country Home Magazine, in the September issue of 1994.
