Maurice Evans was born on an air force base in Smyrna, Tennessee. He exhibited a deep interest in art and showed great talent for illustration from an early age. At fourteen he landed his first professional art-related job as a freelance artist for a commercial art firm in Griffin, Georgia. He later won a scholarship to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta, where he studied fashion illustration.

He has worked in the fields of commercial art, fashion illustration, and medical illustration. While interesting, these jobs left his passion for self-expression unfulfilled and that prompted the artist to make the transition to fine art.

Over a relatively short period he has evolved an artistic style that incorporates many of the elements of fashion illustration, including the movement, exaggeration, and elongation of the human body. His work is defined by rich texture, intense colors, strong emotions, and unusual, exaggerated perspectives. Also a practicing musician, the artist is partial to music themes. He has created a diverse body of work that includes whimsical decorative pieces; funky, graffiti-inspired series; and covertly political work aimed at the art establishment.

Maurice Evans has exhibited his work nationally in a number of solo and group exhibitions. He lives and works in the Atlanta area.
